What's Biting in Dubai Right Now – Season Guide

Dubai fishing report

What's biting in Dubai right now

The water is cooling and the autumn bite is on. Here's what local anglers are catching, how they're catching it, and the exact lures, rods, reels and line we have in stock for each one.

Shore · Breakwaters · Beaches

Queenfish

Talang queenfish · inshore

Running close to shore right now – often within easy casting range off the beaches and breakwaters along the Dubai coast.

  • WhenFirst light and the last hour before dark, on a moving tide.
  • Method 1Cast 10–20g silver jigs as far as you can, let them sink a few seconds, then retrieve fast with sharp twitches. Don't slow down on a follow.
  • Method 270–90mm heavy sinking minnows on a medium retrieve with pauses and twitches.
  • ColoursWhite Tiger, Rainbow, Sardine, Silver Red Stripe.
💡 Queenfish jump and shake – keep hooks sharp and run your drag a touch lighter than you think.
Boat · Trolling · Casting

Kingfish

Kanaad · Spanish mackerel · offshore

Kings are moving in with the cooling water and the next few weeks are prime time off Dubai.

  • TrollingSinking stick baits and heavy jerk baits at 6–8 knots along drop-offs and bait schools.
  • CastingCast at bait being sprayed or birds working, then a fast jerk-pause retrieve.
  • Bite leaderKings have teeth: 60–80lb fluorocarbon or a short wire trace. Check it after every fish.
  • HooksUpgrade stock trebles to a heavier gauge if you fish hard.
💡 Prohunter Splasher 140F is the topwater pick when kings are busting bait on the surface.
Shore · Deep breakwaters

Kingfish from shore

Kanaad · breakwaters & rock walls

No boat needed. Kings come within casting range of the deeper breakwaters and rock walls at this time of year, usually at first light.

  • WhenFirst light, calm mornings, incoming tide.
  • MethodLong casts with lures that run 1–2m down. Let it sink a couple of seconds, then jerk-jerk-pause all the way back.
  • ColourRedhead is the colour doing the damage from shore right now.
💡 Carry a short wire trace in the bag – if you get bitten off twice, clip it on.
Light tackle · Fast jigging

Orange-spotted trevally

Rocks · jetties · marina walls

Holding on the rocks, jetties and marina walls and smashing small jigs worked fast. Great fun on light gear.

  • MethodDrop or cast a 10g jig, let it hit bottom, then rip it back with quick short lifts of the rod tip.
  • Missed bite?Keep the jig moving – they almost always come back for a second go.
  • BonusSame technique picks up small queenfish, bream and the odd golden trevally.
  • HooksFit jigs with a single assist hook on top – better hook-ups, easier on the fish.
💡 Orange-spots fight well above their size on 2500 gear – that's the whole point.
TimingFirst and last light, and the hour either side of a tide change.
ColoursNatural (sardine, silver, white) by day; glow and darker colours at dawn and dusk.
LicenceA valid UAE recreational fishing licence is required from shore and boat. Carry it.
ReleaseKeep what you'll eat, release the rest – especially small queenfish and trevally.
